Silicone Hoses: Getting Started With Homebrewing Part 1

5th Sep 2015

If you can cook, you can make beer! Homebrewing may seem like a daunting hobby to get into, but with some good silicone hoses, some ambition, and time, you can totally do it. We think DIY brewing is cheaper in the long run over store-bought suds and it will give you the pride of creation. Today we're giving you some tips on how to get started.

  • A great way to get started with homebrewing is to pick up an advice for beginners book. There are a lot of good ones out there!
  • If you're serious about making large batches of beer, we think you should splurge for a propane-powered rig with with a three-tiered brew stand. The high heat quickly boils large amounts of liquid, shaving hours off the brewing process. More casual or budget brewers can make do with one big pot, heated on a common kitchen stove.
  • Get organized. Consider all the steps in your process for a few minutes and plan out your brew. The process will take several hours and the more organized you are the better utilized your time will be.
  • You'll want to make sure you have the right sanitation methods and that you begin by disinfecting everything. Clean the components with hot water and liquid soap and finish the job with a no-rinse sanitizer. Use a large container (a wallpaper tray will do) filled with sanitizer to douse hard-to-wash items, such as silicone tubing.

In our next blog, we'll talk about starting your boil and the steps after in creating your first homebrew!
