What Does a Heater Hose Do?

12th Feb 2018

Here at Flex Technologies, we sell silicone hoses and tubes online. All of our products are made to adhere to the standards of ISO 9001:2008, TS-16949. Our products function as intended, and are used for a wide variety of industries! Some of these include aerospace, automotive, marine, medical, etc. Here, we would like to go over one of our custom hose options: the silicone heater hose. For the most part, this hose is used in the automotive industry. We go over just what a heater hose is, and what it does, here.

What Heater Hoses Are

Heater hoses are generally used in cars. Obviously, if the name is any indication, they must be able to withstand a certain amount of heat. Because of this, they have traditionally been made out of materials known to withstand it, like steel. However, here at Flex Technologies, we offer silicone heater hoses treated with a heat shield to withstand extremely high temperatures. Not only is silicone easier to remove than steel hoses, but silicone hoses also look much better (something many car aficionados are very serious about).

What Heater Hoses Do

Especially in colder climates, cars need heat, which requires a working heating system. A major part of this system is the heater hose. What you may not know, is that the cooling system in your car is also what powers your heating system. Engines give off a lot of heat, and burn up if that heat isn't taken away. That is where antifreeze comes in; it has properties that absorb heat. As it is filtered through the engine, it takes heat from the engine and moves it outside of the vehicle, but not all of it. Some of that excess heat goes to the heater core of your vehicle, which is responsible for heating your vehicle. As the engine coolant (now hot), goes into the heater core, it is moved through small tubes in front of a fan, that then blow air over the hot tubes, creating hot air in your car! As the heat leaves the engine coolant, it is transferred back to the engine, where the process starts all over again.
