How to Clean Out Silicone Tubing When You Homebrew

1st Dec 2014

In our previous blog, we talked about how many times you could reuse your silicone tubing for home-brewing. If you didn't get a chance to read it yet, the answer is again and again, as long as you keep it clean. While silicone hoses are beneficial for home-brewers for a wide variety of reasons, silicone tubing, just like the rest of your brewing equipment will require you to take extra care and attention to detail when you clean.

If you are at all familiar with home-brewing then you already know that cleaning is a huge part of keeping your equipment in working order, and your silicone hoses are no exception! The best way to keep your hoses looking and working like new is to rinse them out with a mixture of unscented bleach and hot water after each use (1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of hot water). If you are persistent with rinsing out your hoses right away, you won't ever have to worry about scrubbing them out with a keg brush! Just keep in mind that you should always wait until your hoses are completely dry before you store them, otherwise you could have a mold problem on your hands.

Silicone hoses are wonderful for home-brewing, and they can be used time and time again as long as you clean them properly after each use.
